Ryan Giggs Blacklisted from Premier League Hall of Fame Amid Controversies

Ryan Giggs Excluded from Premier League Hall of Fame Amid Controversies

Ryan Giggs has once again missed out on the Premier League’s Hall of Fame shortlist, despite his previous Manchester United teammates being nominated. A renowned figure at Old Trafford, Giggs, a 13-time league champion and the league’s all-time assist leader with 162 assists, has never been selected since the Hall of Fame’s inception in 2021.

His omission is considered notable given his impressive career, but it appears to be influenced by ongoing personal scandals. Giggs faced exposure for an affair with his brother’s wife, Natasha, and was involved in a legal gagging order related to a fling with Big Brother star Imogen Thomas, which contributed to the breakdown of his marriage.

More recently, his coaching career with Wales ended amid turmoil after he was arrested on suspicion of assault in 2020. Although he denied the allegations and was cleared in 2023, his career has been overshadowed by these controversies.

Meanwhile, the current shortlist features many Manchester United legends, including Patrice Evra and Teddy Sheringham, both debuting for nomination. Other previous nominees such as Gary Neville, Michael Carrick, Nemanja Vidić, Edwin van der Sar, and Michael Owen remain in contention.

The list also highlights notable international players, such as Eden Hazard and Cesc Fàbregas, both outside Old Trafford. Hazard, a two-time Premier League champion and four-time Chelsea Player of the Year, and Fàbregas, second for assists in the league with 111, could see their nominations confirmed through fan voting.
