Florida Surgeon General Admits He Banned Vaccine Mandates Based on “Vibes”

Florida’s Surgeon General Admits No Scientific Analysis Behind Vaccine Mandate Reversal

Florida’s Surgeon General, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, stated in a recent CNN interview that his decision to abolish all vaccine mandates was made without scientific analysis, relying instead on personal judgment or “vibes.”

When pressed about the potential rise of contagious diseases like hepatitis A, whooping cough, and chickenpox following the removal of mandates, Ladapo admitted no data or modeling was used. Instead, he questioned the need for such analyses, implying that outbreak prediction isn’t necessary since officials are accustomed to managing outbreaks without projections. He also claimed that countries without vaccine mandates do not experience catastrophic outbreaks.

He further framed the issue as one of parental rights, asking whether officials should decide what goes into children’s bodies. However, experts widely see the move as a threat to public health. Removing vaccine requirements could lead to increased susceptibility among children, risking outbreaks of deadly diseases such as measles and polio.

Since Ladapo’s appointment, vaccination rates among young children in Florida have declined, reaching the lowest levels in a decade for kindergarteners. The number of families requesting religious exemptions has also risen, undermining herd immunity against preventable diseases.

Health authorities, including former state officials and major medical organizations like the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics, have expressed opposition to the policy. Public opinion polls indicate that over 80% of Florida parents support vaccine requirements for diseases like measles and polio, with broad national support as well.

Even former President Donald Trump has voiced skepticism, emphasizing the importance of vaccines. As Ladapo acknowledged that outbreaks are inevitable, there is growing concern that declining vaccination efforts will lead to increased disease transmission in Florida.
