NYC Officer Slashed During Stabbing Attack at Brooklyn Precinct
A female NYPD officer was injured in Brooklyn after being slashed in the face by an attacker wielding a 14-inch butcher knife. The incident occurred early Sunday morning when the suspect entered the 73rd Precinct in Brownsville through a back door and attempted to bypass security.
When officers tried to stop him from entering via the main entrance, the suspect drew his knife and slashed the officer in the face. The officer, the daughter of two NYPD detectives, managed to block his attempt to cut her throat with her arm, receiving cuts on her head and left ear but avoiding more severe injuries. She was taken to hospital, where her head wound was described as minor and is in good spirits.
Following the attack, officers pursued the suspect as he fled and used a Taser to subdue him. The man, in his 40s, then brandished the knife and charged at officers outside a housing project on Saratoga Avenue, about two blocks from the precinct. Multiple officers shot him several times, and he was rushed to Brookdale Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Law enforcement sources suggest the attacker aimed to cut the officer’s throat during the surprise assault. Officers responded swiftly, with one officer Tasing the suspect before he was shot multiple times outside a nearby housing complex. The suspect died at the hospital. The NYPD commended the officer’s bravery and quick action, noting that her swift defense possibly prevented further harm or loss of life.
Police Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera praised her efforts, highlighting her skill and dedication. She is recognized for her heroism, and her actions exemplify the risks faced by NYPD officers daily.
