Tuchel Blames Villa Park Crowd for Difficult 2-0 England Win Over Andorra
Thomas Tuchel Claims Villa Park Crowd Made England’s 2-0 Win Over Andorra ‘Difficult’
England secured a crucial victory against Andorra with a 2-0 win, moving closer to qualification for next summer’s World Cup. The goals came from Declan Rice’s header and an own goal by an Andorra defender.
However, despite the win, coach Thomas Tuchel highlighted the atmosphere at Villa Park as a factor that complicated the match. The game was played away from Wembley due to Coldplay concerts in the capital. England played at Villa Park in the West Midlands, but Tuchel remarked that the less-than-enthusiastic crowd made the atmosphere “difficult” for his team.
During the match, some spectators were heard directing abusive chants at Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer from the Holte End stand. Tuchel told ITV that the subdued environment impacted his team’s performance, stating, “It’s very different from a Premier League crowd. We could have energized them more, but the atmosphere just wasn’t there.”
Despite the challenges, England’s victory kept their World Cup qualifying hopes alive. The team will face Serbia next in Belgrade, where Dusan Vlahovic’s side remains unbeaten in the qualifiers after a win over Latvia.
Pictured below are moments from the match, with Tuchel commenting on the unique challenges posed by playing in a less familiar stadium with a different crowd dynamic.
