Chelsea Legend Plans to Follow Lampard Into Management
Joe Cole Aims to Follow Lampard into Management
Former Chelsea star Joe Cole has expressed his desire to pursue a managerial career, inspired by the path taken by Frank Lampard.
Since retiring, Cole has mainly worked as a pundit for TNT Sports but is now considering stepping into coaching roles. He previously worked with Brentford’s academy and hopes to manage at the senior level someday.
In an interview, Cole shared: “I’m coaching a bit—last year with Brentford’s youth team—and plan to start coaching again once circumstances are right. I’m eager to find the right opportunity, ideally a good job where I can succeed.”
Joe Cole hopes to emulate Frank Lampard’s managerial success.
Cole played with Lampard during his playing career and now aspires to managerial roles.
He noted that coaching is a chaotic environment, with managers often facing scrutiny and interference. “You don’t want to take a job where you lack control,” he said. Cole emphasized that he’s looking for a position where he can have significant influence over tactics and maintain a good relationship with club owners. “If that chance comes, I’d do it tomorrow,” he added.
Meanwhile, John Terry, another of Cole’s former teammates, has decided against pursuing a full managerial career. He currently works with Chelsea’s academy and is content with his life outside coaching. Terry reflected: “I wanted to manage, but now I enjoy my time away from the game, playing golf, and spending time with family.”
Frank Lampard’s managerial journey has included spells at Chelsea, Derby, Everton, and now Coventry City.
John Terry has stated he has no immediate plans to pursue management further, preferring to enjoy his personal life and work within Chelsea’s youth setup.
