Goonies Alum Martha Plimpton Reveals Life-Changing Medical Diagnosis and Huge Relief
Martha Plimpton Embraces Her ADHD Diagnosis and Advocacy
Actress Martha Plimpton openly discusses her experience with ADHD, expressing pride rather than shame. Attending a recent premiere in New York City, she wore a prominent “ADHD” necklace and shared her journey on the red carpet.
Plimpton revealed she was diagnosed late in life, at around age 50, which brought her clarity. “It was a huge relief to be diagnosed,” she said, emphasizing that many others receive similar late diagnoses. Her openness aims to normalize ADHD and foster understanding.
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a developmental condition marked by symptoms such as inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. It is a chronic disorder that affects various aspects of daily life, making diagnosis and management crucial.
Following her diagnosis, Plimpton found explanations for many confusing experiences. “So many little things fell into place and made sense,” she stated. She now embraces her ADHD openly, sharing her truth with the world and advocating for acceptance.
In addition to her personal revelations, Plimpton stars in the upcoming TV series “Task,” portraying an FBI supervisor named Sarah. She describes her character as a formidable woman who has worked hard to succeed and navigates workplace challenges with confidence—traits Plimpton relates to on a personal level.
She also remains a passionate supporter of reproductive rights, emphasizing that despite setbacks like the overturning of Roe v. Wade, hope persists. “It’s absolutely possible to access tools for self-managed abortion,” she asserts, advocating that medications like mifepristone and misoprostol remain accessible, safe, and legal in many parts of the country.
“Task” is set to air on HBO and HBO Max starting September 7.
