Daniel Levy Steps Down as Tottenham Chairman After Nearly 25 Years

Tottenham has announced the departure of Daniel Levy, who has resigned from his role as chairman after almost a quarter of a century leading the club.

During his tenure, the 62-year-old transformed Tottenham into a regular fixture in the Champions League and oversaw the development of their £1 billion stadium.

Vinai Venkatesham will assume the role of CEO, with Thomas Frank managing the men’s team, and Peter Charrington stepping in as non-executive chairman. The club confirmed there will be no change in ownership, with ENIC Group, controlled by British businessman Joe Lewis, remaining in charge.

Levy reflected on his time at the club, stating, “I am incredibly proud of the work we have accomplished together—turning Tottenham into a global powerhouse and building a strong community.” He expressed gratitude to fans and colleagues, emphasizing his continued support for the club.

Legacy and Controversies

Levy’s long reign began in 2001, during which Tottenham rose from mid-table obscurity to one of England’s elite clubs, qualifying for European tournaments in 18 of the past 20 seasons and reaching the Champions League final in 2019. His leadership saw the redevelopment of White Hart Lane and the creation of the modern Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a hub for football and major events.

Despite these achievements, Levy maintained a cautious approach in transfers, which occasionally frustrated supporters. Recent transfer attempts, such as misses for Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze, highlighted some of these persistent challenges. Tottenham also went through numerous managerial changes, working with 16 different managers, including Ange Postecoglou, who ended Tottenham’s 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League before being dismissed shortly afterward. Thomas Frank is now tasked with shaping the club’s future.
