Nicolas Jackson’s Shocking Red Card Sparks Outrage — His Apology & What Chelsea Teammates Say!
Nicolas Jackson Apologizes After Second Red Card of the Season
Nicolas Jackson, the young Chelsea striker, expressed regret following his second red card within a month during a match at the FIFA Club World Cup. The 24-year-old was dismissed just four minutes after coming on as a substitute in the team’s 3-1 defeat against Flamengo in Philadelphia.
Jackson received a straight red card for foul play, raking his studs down the shin of Flamengo’s Ayrton Lucas. The incident occurred shortly after he entered the game, contributing to a difficult evening for Chelsea, who initially led through Pedro Neto but ultimately conceded two quick goals before Jackson’s dismissal. Flamengo sealed the victory with a goal from Wallace Yan in stoppage time.
Following the match, Jackson took to Instagram to apologize, saying, “I want to say sorry to the club, staff, teammates, and supporters. I let you down. Another red card, and I’m so angry with myself. I work hard every day to help the team and prevent situations like this.” He admitted that the foul was not intentional, calling it “a football moment gone wrong” and emphasized his commitment to learning and growing from the mistake.
Teammate Marc Cucurella acknowledged the foul as “bad luck” and noted that Jackson needs to demonstrate greater maturity. Cucurella also mentioned that Jackson apologized to the team in the dressing room and remains an important player for Chelsea. Conversely, former midfielder John Obi Mikel criticized the challenge as a “stupid mistake,” pointing out its recurrence in high-stakes matches.
With Jackson suspended for the upcoming crucial match against ES Tunis, Liam Delap is expected to lead the attack. He previously started in the defeat against Flamengo but was substituted by Jackson during the game.
