President Considers Revoking Rosie O’Donnell’s US Citizenship

President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he is contemplating stripping actress and comedian Rosie O’Donnell of her U.S. citizenship, a move he previously threatened but which is not legally permissible. Trump stated on Truth Social, “We are giving serious thought to taking away Rosie O’Donnell’s Citizenship. She is not a Great American and is, in my opinion, incapable of being so.”

O’Donnell was born in Commack, New York, and under the 14th Amendment, her citizenship is guaranteed. She has also been in the process of acquiring Irish citizenship after moving to Ireland earlier this year, citing the current political climate as a reason.

O’Donnell responded to Trump’s threat in July, comparing his comment to the character King Joffrey from “Game of Thrones,” saying, “Go ahead and try, king joffrey with a tangerine spray tan. I’m not yours to silence, I never was.”

Despite Trump’s remarks, legally, a U.S. president cannot revoke citizenship from someone born within the country. Trump had previously questioned her during a meeting with the Irish prime minister in March, suggesting he was better off not knowing who she was.

O’Donnell’s feud with Trump dates back nearly twenty years, beginning with her criticism of him in 2006 on “The View,” related to his leniency towards a Miss USA contestant accused of drug use and other controversies. In 2015, Trump responded to a question about his derogatory remarks about women by saying, “Only Rosie O’Donnell.”

Recently, after a tragic shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis that resulted in two deaths and over a dozen injuries, O’Donnell posted a video claiming the shooter was a MAGA supporter, a Republican, and a white supremacist. She later deleted the video and issued a public apology, admitting she had made inaccuracies and did not do due diligence before making an emotional statement.

O’Donnell expressed her hope to return to America once it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights, stating, “That’s when we will consider coming back.”
