Congressman Accuses Mike Johnson of Lying to Epstein Victims
House Oversight Committee Criticizes Speaker Mike Johnson’s Statements on Epstein Victims
House Oversight Committee ranking member Stephen Lynch (D-MA) accused Speaker Mike Johnson of dishonesty after Johnson reportedly promised Epstein victims that efforts would be made for justice, only to reverse that stance publicly shortly afterward.
During a press conference, Lynch stated, “If Johnson truly wanted transparency and progress, he would allow the discharge petition to succeed, enabling us to access the requested documents. It’s shocking that shortly after reassuring victims about pursuing justice, he then claimed the records couldn’t be disclosed.”
In a televised exchange, Lynch questioned whether Johnson had misled the victims privately, saying, “Some women are seeking access to their own files on government surveillance. Johnson told them they would get transparency, but moments later, he publicly stated that disclosure was unnecessary. That’s a clear contradiction.”
Most of the information released by House Oversight Chair James Comer on Tuesday night was already publicly available, consisting mainly of duplicate pages designed to inflate the document count.
In addition to criticizing Johnson, Gavin Newsom called out the Speaker for hypocrisy on gun violence issues. According to critics, Republicans like Johnson tend to disregard children’s safety at schools, deceive victims, and prioritize the interests of the wealthy few.
The consensus among opponents is that defeating Republican leaders is the only way to bring about meaningful change.
