Turkish FA Head Bashes Liverpool After Galatasaray Draw in Champions League

Turkish FA President Criticizes Liverpool Ahead of Champions League Match

The head of the Turkish Football Federation has made a bold statement regarding Liverpool’s current form, claiming they are no longer the team they once were. This comes ahead of Galatasaray’s upcoming Champions League clash with the Reds.

The Champions League draw, held last Thursday in Monaco, revealed several exciting fixtures. Notably, Newcastle will face Barcelona, Manchester City will go up against Real Madrid, and Trent Alexander-Arnold will return to Anfield with Galatasaray in a highly anticipated match.

Although Liverpool faces a tough group including Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Galatasaray, the Turkish champions are hopeful of progressing. Their opening match is against Atletico Madrid at Anfield on September 17, with the Turkish team traveling to Istanbul to face Galatasaray on September 30—a challenging environment known for its raucous atmosphere.

Adding to the tension, Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu, president of the Turkish Football Federation, expressed confidence in Galatasaray’s prospects. He stated that the Turkish club is better than some teams in Pot 2 and 3, and he believes they will reach the knockout stages, provided they perform well in the later rounds.

This optimistic outlook contrasts with Liverpool’s recent heavy investment in their squad, including signings like Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, and Alexander Isak for a combined £125m, reflecting their ambition to reclaim European dominance.

Former Liverpool and Real Madrid star Steve McManaman acknowledged that the away fixture in Istanbul will be difficult, recalling the hostile atmosphere during past visits. He noted that while Galatasaray’s new stadium might be less intimidating than in the past, the club remains a formidable opponent in Turkey.

Overall, the encounter promises to be a challenging fixture for Liverpool, with Turkey’s top club eager to make a statement in this season’s competition.
