Manchester United’s Deadline Day Attempt for Bundesliga Star — Could Return Next Summer
Manchester United’s Transfer Window: Failed Deadline Day Bid and Future Midfielder Plans
Manchester United aimed to strengthen their squad during the recent transfer window but fell short on deadline day. The club attempted to acquire a midfielder but was unsuccessful in securing a new player before the deadline.
The club was particularly interested in Brighton’s Carlos Baleba, having previously pursued him earlier in the summer. Additionally, they showed interest in Stuttgart’s Angelo Stiller, who is currently valued at €25 million. Stiller, a 24-year-old former Bayern Munich youth player, prefers to stay at Stuttgart to ensure regular game time ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Last season, he made 31 Bundesliga starts and participated in eight Champions League matches, despite Stuttgart’s disappointing ninth-place finish.
Stiller has also represented Germany at the senior level, earning four caps since his debut, having come through Bayern’s youth ranks.
While United did not succeed in their quest for a midfielder, they managed to secure a new goalkeeper. They completed a £21.7 million deal for 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp. Lammens signed a contract lasting until June 2030 and has made 64 appearances for Antwerp, helping them win the Belgian Super Cup in 2023. He was also called up to the Belgium national team for the first time in March.
Lammens expressed his excitement about joining Manchester United, stating, “I am extremely proud to be joining Manchester United, it is a real dream come true. The past few years have been an amazing journey, and I hope this is the beginning of something special. I can feel the positive atmosphere here, and I believe I can make a significant impact.” He added, “I look forward to working with my new teammates and coaching staff, and to developing my career at this exciting club.”
