Lyon Youth Academy Player, 13, Charged with Murder Following Fatal Stabbing of 16-Year-Old
A 13-year-old boy associated with Lyon’s football academy has been officially charged with murder in connection with a fatal stabbing in the northern suburbs of Lyon.
The incident occurred late Sunday night in Caluire-et-Cuire, where a 16-year-old boy, identified only as Chems Z, was found suffering from stab wounds. The victim was out with two friends when he was attacked at around 10:30 pm, receiving a stab wound to the upper body. Despite efforts by emergency services, he succumbed to his injuries after being taken to hospital.
Police arrested a local 13-year-old boy believed to play for Lyon’s youth team shortly after the attack. Due to legal restrictions related to his age, his identity cannot be disclosed. He has been charged with murder in connection with Chems Z’s death.

The mayor of Caluire-et-Cuire, Bastien Joint, expressed his sorrow, describing the event as a tragic incident unrelated to drug activity or organized crime. He emphasized that it was a personal dispute that escalated tragically.
“Our community has been deeply affected. We mourn alongside the family. Society cannot ignore these conflicts, and we must ensure that such a quarrel never leads to the loss of a young life again,” he stated.
