Michigan Student Sarah Carroll Killed in Stalking-Linked Murder-Suicide
Michigan Student Killed by Ex-Boyfriend in Shooting
A 20-year-old college student from Michigan was tragically shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend, who had been stalking her for months while she was seeking legal protection.
Sarah Carroll was shot at the Woodland Villa Apartments near Detroit on Saturday. Her former partner, known only as Lincoln, contacted authorities after the shooting and then took his own life.
Lincoln called 911 to confess that he had murdered Sarah before ending his own life. Police responded to the scene and classified the incident as a murder-suicide.
Sarah’s mother, Jennifer Carroll, revealed that her daughter was in the process of obtaining a restraining order against Lincoln. She described him as suffering from mental health issues, which she believes contributed to the tragedy.
“She had been with Lincoln for nearly a year, and they were having difficulties. He was stalking her for the past two months,” Jennifer said. “He came to her apartment last night, shot her, called 911, and then shot himself.”
Jennifer emphasized that her daughter was unaware of the extent of her ex-boyfriend’s harassment. Her father, James Carroll, added that she was shot multiple times with a shotgun and urged parents to stay vigilant and communicate openly with their children.
James Carroll expressed deep sorrow, saying, “She was loved by everyone she met. She was wonderful, and I will miss my baby.”
The community has rallied around Sarah’s family, with a GoFundMe campaign raising funds for her funeral expenses. Organizers describe her as “smart, brave, strong, and with a smile that lit up every room.”
“Losing her at such a young age is heartbreaking, and no family should endure this,” her family shared.
The Westland Police Department plans to release further details about the incident later this week.
