Road Rage Attack Nearly Blinds Truck Driver
A truck driver from Vermont was severely injured after an aggressive driver allegedly attacked him during a highway altercation. Ronnie Bushway, 46, was on his way home from work when the incident occurred, which left him close to losing his eyesight.
The suspect, Aaron Williams, 44, reportedly drove in front of Bushway’s vehicle and performed a brake check before exiting his car. He then approached Bushway’s truck, punching him multiple times and attempting to gouge his eyes. Witnesses described the victim as bleeding heavily from his nose and unable to speak clearly due to the injuries.
Emergency responders rushed to assist Bushway, who endured two major surgeries aimed at saving his vision. Though some sight was restored, doctors warn he will likely experience significant visual impairment for life, affecting his ability to work as a tractor-trailer driver, a job that demands sharp eyesight.
Family members state the attack appeared completely random and are raising funds to support his extensive medical treatment. A GoFundMe campaign has gathered over $27,000 from more than 140 donors to aid in covering his medical expenses.
Bushway’s father expressed shock over the violent incident, emphasizing the family’s hope for his recovery and rehabilitation. His sister-in-law set up the fundraising effort to assist with his ongoing care, which includes additional surgeries.
The incident underscores increasing concerns about road rage; recent events include a fatal Long Island Expressway crash by a driver attempting to harm a motorcyclist, and a teenager in Louisiana shot in a road rage confrontation, prompting emergency medical response and ongoing investigations.
