Kelsey Bateman, ‘Rock of Love’ Contestant, Dies at 39
Former “Rock of Love” Contestant Kelsey Bateman Dies at 39
Kelsey Bateman, who gained fame as a contestant on the third and final season of the VH1 dating show “Rock of Love,” has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 39. Her family did not disclose a specific cause of death.
Bateman was just 21 years old when she vied for the affection of rock star Bret Michaels, competing against 22 other women. The show, which aired from 2007 to 2009, featured contestants living on tour buses and traveling with Michaels. She was among the last nine women vying for his attention but was eliminated in the seventh episode of the third season.
During her appearance, Bateman was known for her candid moments, including showing up to eliminations intoxicated and sharing that she once laid on a speed bump crying due to the pressures of the competition. She humorously admitted, “I ended up laying on a speed bump bawling my eyes out… but I’m here and ready for whatever Bret has to say.”
Bret Michaels, now 62, eliminated her, citing concerns about her ability to handle his rock-and-roll lifestyle. He expressed that she might need to be her authentic self rather than drinking heavily or pretending to be someone she’s not. Michaels explained, “My decision for her is that I’m going to let her tour end here.”
Bateman later reflected emotionally on the experience, confessing, “Sometimes I get drunk and lay on speed bumps. Apparently, Bret just can’t handle a girl that likes to get drunk and lay on speed bumps.” She also stated she would take time to be single and avoid men for a while, suggesting her next partner wouldn’t be a rock star or in his forties.
Despite making it far in the show, Bateman was ultimately eliminated before the finale, where Michaels chose Taya Parker as his girlfriend. Michaels later married Kristi Michaels in 2013, with whom he shares two daughters, Raine and Jorja.
