Nun Chases Down Thief Stealing Credit Cards from Religious Shop Customer

Fearless Nun Chases Down Credit Card Thief and Recovers Stolen Cards

A religious sister in Pittsburgh demonstrated remarkable bravery when she pursued a suspect who had just stolen her credit cards, even threatening to shoot her during the incident at her store.

Sister Mary Madalyn Schleifer, who owns the Sacred Heart of Jesus shop in Bloomfield, acted swiftly after a customer reported their cards had been stolen while shopping at her store earlier this week. Without hesitation, she took off after the suspect, who was fleeing the scene.

The nun then made a split-second decision to chase after the alleged credit card thief and was able to recover the snatched cards.

She recounted, “He was walking out the door, and I started following him, and he turned around and said, ‘I don’t want to have to shoot you.’”

Undeterred, she responded, “Listen, all I want to tell you is Jesus loves you,” and continued her pursuit. Ultimately, she caught up with him outside the store, recovered the stolen cards, and confronted him directly.

Schleifer has previously intervened in several risky situations, including confronting an armed jewelry thief and a man demanding money.

Her quick action was driven by her faith; she emphasized that everyone is God’s child. “We’re all His children, whether we realize it or not,” she said, adding, “Sometimes, life’s messes obscure that truth, and we need to be cleaned to see clearly.”

It remains unclear whether police have detained or charged the suspect. The local authorities did not respond to inquiries about the case at this time.
