Luis Suarez Spits on Rival Coach During Brawl in Inter Miami Cup Final
Luis Suarez Caught on Video Spitting at Opposing Coach After Intense Brawl in Inter Miami’s Loss
The incident occurred following Inter Miami’s 3-0 defeat in the Leagues Cup final. Tensions escalated post-match, culminating in footage that shows striker Luis Suarez confronting and allegedly spitting at a Seattle Sounders coach, amidst chaotic scenes on the field.
The 38-year-old, known for his fiery temperament, was seen getting in the coach’s face and seemingly spitting at him, even striking him on the face as Miami’s goalkeeper Oscar Ustari attempted to intervene. Earlier, both teams’ players were involved in a scuffle, grabbing each other’s necks and exchanging punches after the game ended.
Suarez’s history of controversial incidents is well-documented. He previously received an eight-match ban and a fine from the English FA in 2011 for racist remarks towards Patrice Evra, and notably refused to shake hands with Evra during a furious Premier League match. During the 2014 World Cup, Suarez was suspended for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, marking his third such offense in his career, which also included biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic and Ajax’s Otman Bakkal.
The latest incident might result in a significant disciplinary action from Major League Soccer, which is expected to announce sanctions soon.
In the match, Seattle took an early lead through Osaze De Rosario, and doubled their advantage after Georgi Minounou was fouled inside the penalty area, with Alex Roldan converting the penalty. Paul Rothrock added Seattle’s third goal late in the game. Despite creating several chances, Inter Miami was unable to score, and Suarez was seen venting his frustration at the end of the match.
The team’s next fixture is against Charlotte FC on September 13, following the international break.
