Suspected Killer of Suzanne Morphew Arrested After Over Five Years

The husband of Suzanne Morphew, a Colorado mother who vanished in May 2020, has been taken into custody and charged with her murder. Over five years after her mysterious disappearance during a bike ride, authorities announced the arrest of Barry Morphew, 56, in Gilbert, Arizona.

Prosecutors allege that Barry murdered Suzanne, whose body was later found in a remote area. Legal documents indicated that she was last seen on May 10, 2020, and autopsy results revealed traces of butorphanol, a strong animal tranquilizer the husband reportedly used for hunting. It was noted that only Barry had access to BAM in the area at the time of Suzanne’s disappearance.

Investigators also found tranquilizer darts, a tranquilizer gun, and a needle cap within the couple’s home shortly after she went missing. Her husband maintains his innocence and previously faced charges in 2021, which were later dismissed without prejudice, leaving open the possibility of future prosecution.

Suzanne’s remains were discovered three years later in Moffat, Colorado, about 45 miles from her home. She had not returned after a Mother’s Day bike ride, while Barry was reportedly on a business trip. His defense criticizes the case’s foundation, with his attorney claiming law enforcement was predisposed to a conclusion.

Barry has consistently denied involvement, asserting his innocence. His two daughters, Macy and Mallory, continue to support him, insisting they never doubted his innocence despite evidence suggesting marital issues prior to her disappearance. Suzanne had expressed concerns about her marriage and suspected her husband of an affair; she was also involved in a long-distance relationship she intended to pursue.

The authorities are now working to extradite Barry Morphew back to Colorado to face trial. Meanwhile, the case remains a focus of public and legal scrutiny, with Suzanne’s family seeking justice after years of uncertainty.
