Trump Criticizes Pritzker on Crime; Governor’s Weight Loss Sparks 2028 Rumors
Feud Intensifies Between Trump and Illinois Governor Over Chicago Violence
Amid ongoing violence in Chicago, former President Donald Trump has taken a strong stance against Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, criticizing him for refusing federal assistance after a violent weekend where six people were killed and over twenty-five were shot.
On his social media platform, Trump called Pritzker “incompetent” and issued a warning, stating, “He better fix it quickly, or we’re going to intervene.” This comes shortly after Trump signed executive orders aimed at restoring order in Washington, D.C., including federalizing local police and deploying the National Guard.
Trump has now threatened that Chicago could be next, suggesting that the city might receive similar federal attention. He also mocked Pritzker’s physical appearance, hinting at the governor’s recent weight loss as a sign of a potential 2028 presidential bid, adding, “He should spend more time in the gym.”
Pritzker fired back, dismissing Trump’s approach as “unconstitutional” and a “dangerous power grab,” emphasizing that Chicago will defend its democracy against any military intervention. The city’s mayor, Brandon Johnson, also rejected Trump’s threats, calling them “unconstitutional,” and vowed to protect Chicago from what he deems an illegal military takeover.
The political rivalry plays into both men’s broader agendas. Trump uses Chicago’s crime as a symbol of Democratic failure, seeking to bolster his law-and-order image, while Pritzker presents himself as standing up against what he characterizes as Trump’s bullying tactics.
Statistically, Chicago has consistently led the nation in homicides for over a decade, according to White House reports. The back-and-forth between Trump and Pritzker underscores the deep political divide over how to handle urban violence and federal intervention.
To date, Pritzker’s office has not responded to requests for comment.
