John Fetterman Supports Trump’s $200M White House Ballroom Plan

White House to Get a New State Ballroom

The White House will soon feature a new 90,000-square-foot “State Ballroom” in the East Wing, capable of hosting up to 650 guests. This significant upgrade addresses the need for larger event space, as the current largest venue— the East Room, catering to 200—cannot accommodate the increasing number of visitors, often requiring external tents for overflow.

The project marks the first major structural addition since 1948, when the Truman Balcony was added. It will be privately funded and is expected to be completed before the current president’s term ends. President Trump has emphasized the necessity of the space, citing its utility for hosting prominent international guests and large gatherings.

“When entertaining world leaders or hosting major events, the current facilities can be limiting,” Trump explained. “The new ballroom will help accommodate larger crowds comfortably and eliminate the need for outside tents, which is a better experience for everyone.”

Supporters note the renovation will preserve the historic character of the residence, and some politicians view the upgrade as a sensible investment. Senator John Fetterman expressed a measured opinion, saying, “The plans appear tasteful and respectful of the building’s history,” and indicating that the project is a reasonable upgrade at no taxpayer expense.

Construction is scheduled to begin in September. The development has also included other modifications, such as upgrading flagpoles and replacing the Rose Garden’s grass with stone. White House officials have stated that the ballroom project should be completed well before the end of the current administration.
