Exclusive: Zohran Mamdani’s Radical DSA-NYC Policies He Won’t Reject
NYC Mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani’s Hidden Radical Platform Revealed
Although Zohran Mamdani, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), has distanced himself from his party’s more extreme policies during his mayoral campaign, recent archives unveil a different story. The NYC-DSA’s platform, which was removed from their website in 2021, promotes a radical shift toward socialist restructuring, including dismantling capitalism and overhauling the economy.
The platform advocates for decriminalizing all sex work, drugs, and petty crimes such as fare jumping and trespassing. Notably, it calls for the immediate expungement of convictions related to these offenses and proposes releasing those incarcerated for such crimes.
While Mamdani publicly states that his platform isn’t the same as the national DSA’s, his campaign has avoided distancing itself from these core proposals. When asked if he still aligns with the organization’s views, his team said law enforcement would still prosecute misdemeanors if he is elected, without explicitly endorsing the radical policies.
The platform also includes decriminalizing all drugs, sex work, and minor offenses, and enacting criminal justice reforms like abolishing cash bail, closing Rikers Island without building new jails, and replacing police oversight boards with elected civilian review panels. It supports expanding sanctuary protections, granting voting rights to non-citizens, and resisting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Educational policies proposed by the platform involve ending mayoral control over schools, banning new charter schools, and removing police from schools. It also emphasizes increased funding for diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, as well as boosting teacher protections.
Additionally, the agenda calls for creating city-run food stores, municipalizing utilities, and implementing universal rent control and land seizure to promote affordable housing. Mamdani’s previous support for public ownership of utilities and reform of election boards aligns with his broader socialist vision.
Despite the platform’s radical foundation, Mamdani’s campaign insists he will uphold law enforcement and public safety, suggesting a more moderated approach if elected. The true scope of his policies remains under wraps as he courts the city’s establishment and business sectors.
