Lakers Eye Luka Dončić: Buss & Pelinka Watch Slovenia Game in Poland
Lakers Fully Support Luka Dončić’s Participation in EuroBasket 2025
The Los Angeles Lakers’ management has expressed complete backing for superstar Luka Dončić’s decision to represent Slovenia in the upcoming 2025 EuroBasket tournament. Team officials, including owner Jeanie Buss and president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka, attended Slovenia’s final practice in Poland to show their support.
Dončić emphasized his dedication to playing for his country, stating, “It’s an easy choice. I’ve always wanted to represent my homeland. Unless injured, I will always choose to play.” Despite a recent knee tweak during Slovenia’s warm-ups, medical assessments have cleared him to participate, and the Lakers remain unconcerned.
Pelinka highlighted the franchise’s effort to support Dončić’s international commitments, mentioning that the team wanted to affirm their backing and show their support for his role as a national ambassador. Observing Dončić in action, collaborating and gearing up for the season, was a valuable experience for the Lakers’ staff.
Recently, Dončić signed a three-year, $165 million extension with the Lakers after being acquired in a trades involving Anthony Davis and others. Last season, the five-time All-NBA player averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists, contributing significantly to both the Mavericks and Lakers.
Following his trade to Los Angeles, the Mavericks secured the top pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, choosing consensus No. 1 prospect Cooper Flagg from Duke, signaling a new chapter for the former Dallas star. As the team aims for an NBA championship with Dončić and LeBron James, they also fully support his commitment to international play, especially considering his recent offseason focus on conditioning for the upcoming season.
