Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Contract Ends, Eyes Return to England to Join Perrie Edwards After 9 Years apart
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s Besiktas Contract Ends as He Considers Returning to England to Reunite with Fiancée Perrie Edwards
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has mutually agreed to terminate his contract with Besiktas, fueling speculation about a return to English football. The midfielder, formerly of Liverpool and Arsenal, is eager to come back to the UK, which would allow him to be closer to his fiancée, Perrie Edwards, after nearly nine years of long-distance separation.
Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Besiktas in 2023 on a three-year deal, making 50 appearances and contributing five goals and one assist. His time in Turkey included winning the Turkish Cup in the 2023-24 season, though injuries sidelined him at times last year. The club agreed to pay him a severance fee of €1.75 million (£1.58 million).
There is growing interest from English clubs, with Birmingham City reportedly showing strong interest in signing him. The club’s owners are optimistic about attracting high-profile players, boosted by the involvement of NFL legend Tom Brady as a minority owner. A return to England would facilitate a reunion with Perrie Edwards, the former Little Mix star, and their child.
Edwards previously revealed that she and Oxlade-Chamberlain have never lived together during their relationship, which has lasted nine years. She shared that the long-distance aspect has been challenging, especially with her pursuing a solo career and managing life with a young child.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s England career includes 35 caps and seven goals from 2012 to 2019. His club career began at Southampton before moving to Arsenal in 2011, where he scored 20 goals in 198 appearances and won three FA Cups. His tenure at Liverpool from 2017 brought numerous trophies, including the Champions League, Premier League, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup, with 18 goals in 146 matches for the Reds.
