Burning Man’s ‘Orgy Dome’ Destroyed by Nevada Windstorm

Damage to the Orgy Dome at Burning Man Due to Severe Dust Storm

The notorious Orgy Dome at Burning Man—a large, air-conditioned structure where consenting participants can engage in private activities—was destroyed over the weekend following a powerful dust storm and strong winds that swept through the Nevada festival site.

Organizers announced on social media that the storm left the structure in ruins. A video shared showed metal poles bent, the roof torn away, and the beds and interior belongings missing. They confirmed the dome was “beyond repair” but indicated efforts are underway to gather materials like walls, pipes, and zippers to rebuild.

The destruction coincided with fierce dust storms and gusts that forcibly upended tents and caused traffic delays, trapping attendees in lengthy eight-hour backups. Footage from early arrivals depicted men struggling to stabilize metal poles as the wind nearly carried them away.

In response to the storm, event officials temporarily closed access to Black Rock City, halting all ingress and egress, and suspended flights to ensure safety. Early Monday, the gates reopened, with attendees repairing their camps and recovering belongings while the festival continues through September 1, attracting roughly 70,000 participants annually.
