Gary Lineker Makes a Humorous Confession About His Personal Life

Retired football star and long-time presenter of Match of the Day has a penchant for self-deprecating humor. Recently, he shared a revealing joke about his personal life during a podcast appearance.

Lineker, who was married twice — first to Michelle Cockayne and later to Danielle Bux, from whom he separated in 2016 — revealed that he has not been intimate with anyone since his split with Bux. In a conversation with Alan Shearer on The Rest is Football podcast, he joked about his inactivity in that department.

His comment came after he described a recent bike ride to Craven Cottage, where he watched Fulham’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United. Noting that he hadn’t ridden a bicycle in decades, he said: “It’s the first time I’ve ever been on a Lime Bike.” Shearer quipped, “It’s probably the first ride you’ve had in 15 years,” referencing the time since his divorce.

Both shared a laugh over the comment, and Lineker admitted, “Sadly, that’s probably true, Al.” Despite the humor, he emphasized his contentment with his current solo life, stating, “I’m so happy on my own. I have many friends for dinners and outings, and I’m quite comfortable this way.” In April, he also noted on the same podcast that he’s not interested in dating again, wishing to remain single and focus on his friendships.

Lineker was married to Michelle Cockayne in 1986; they have four sons. Their marriage ended in divorce in 2006, which was announced as amicable. Later, he married actress and model Danielle Bux in 2009, but they separated in 2016, citing differences over having more children.
