Roma Chief Criticizes Sancho’s Motivation Despite Man United’s Escape Route
Roma Director of Football Questions Jadon Sancho’s Motivation Amid Transfer Talks
Roma’s sporting director, Frederic Massara, has expressed doubts about the willingness of Jadon Sancho to complete a transfer to the Serie A club. Despite Roma being in discussions with the 25-year-old winger, Massara suggested that Sancho is showing a lack of motivation to proceed with the negotiations.
Sancho is expected to leave Manchester United this summer after a challenging period at Old Trafford. He has been told he is no longer needed by United manager Ruben Amorim, with his contract set to expire next year.
Initially linked with a move to Chelsea, where he spent last season on loan, the club decided not to make the transfer permanent. Roma has now become a potential destination, with talks ongoing. However, Massara hinted that the negotiations have hit a snag. “Sancho is a talented player, who was linked with many Italian clubs,” he said.
He added, “At the moment, it’s just a suggestion, because it appears the conditions and motivation to continue are lacking.”
Despite these comments, Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini maintained optimism. “Sancho hasn’t said no to Roma,” he stated. “There are eight days remaining. Roma is a good team, and we remain hopeful.”
Last season, Roma secured a spot in the Europa League with a fifth-place finish in Serie A, under the guidance of several managers, including Claudio Ranieri, who returned for a third stint before taking on an advisory role this summer.
