NYC Woman Confronts Carjacker, Sparks Wild NYPD Shooting Fears
Queens Woman Confronts Repeat Offender Amid Crime Surge
A woman from Queens recounted a terrifying incident involving a convicted felon, which culminated in police officers accidentally shooting a detective during a chaotic encounter. Kimberly Patino, 32, described how she nearly became a victim herself after spotting a suspicious man near her home.
Patino first observed the suspect, Kevin Dubuisson, a 28-year-old with a history of violent crimes and mental health issues, attempting to steal an SUV at a nearby gas station. She noticed him tugging on vehicle doors and saw him enter an SUV, which was quickly fought off by an attendant. Later, he crossed the street and aggressively approached her, threatening to kill her and calling her derogatory names.
As Patino yelled for her husband to come outside, Dubuisson fled the scene and approached an Uber driver parked nearby. He announced he was robbing the driver and brandished what appeared to be a gun, prompting the driver to call 911. Officers responded swiftly, but the situation quickly escalated, resulting in police opening fire and inadvertently injuring Detective Corey Fisher, a 12-year veteran, shot in his hand and leg.
Dubuisson was detained and charged with multiple criminal offenses, including robbery and assault. He had recently been released on parole after serving time for a prior robbery conviction. Patino, an ER technician, expressed frustration with the justice system, criticizing it for letting a violent offender back into the community so soon after his release.
She reflected on how close she came to being harmed, emphasizing her relief that her husband was home during the incident. Patino called for stronger law enforcement measures and legal repercussions, saying, “This city is turning into trash. How are we allowing these crimes to happen repeatedly?”
Dubuisson’s history of arrests and mental health issues, combined with his recent release, highlights ongoing concerns about repeat offenders and public safety in the city.
Patino later learned that Dubuisson had just been released from jail and was in the process of being rebooked when he attacked. She expressed worry about the systemic issues contributing to rising violence and called for change from city officials.
