LA Hardware Stores Uncover $4.5M Cargo Theft Ring, Police Reveal
Major Cargo Theft Operation Disrupted Through Fake Hardware Stores
Two seemingly innocent hardware stores in Los Angeles were secretly operating as fronts for a large-scale cargo theft ring, resulting in an estimated loss of $4.5 million worth of stolen goods. These goods were stolen from trains, trucks, and cargo ships across Southern California’s transportation network.
The stores, DJ General Tool & Wire’s locations in Montebello and Huntington Park, served as distribution hubs for the organized crime group. Investigators found that the stolen merchandise included high-end power tools, e-bikes, and appliances from brands like Dyson, Milwaukee, DeWalt, and Makita.
Authorities have arrested store owner Dojoon Park, 41, of Montebello, on suspicion of possessing stolen property. Prosecutors are preparing to file charges that could lead to lengthy prison sentences. “Charges are expected to involve maximum prison terms,” said a district attorney spokesperson.
This operation highlights the ongoing challenge posed by sophisticated cargo theft networks in Los Angeles. Law enforcement partnered with Union Pacific Police and Los Angeles Port Police to link the stolen goods to specific incidents across the supply chain.
Detectives emphasized that cargo theft impacts everyone—from retailers and distributors to consumers—and stresses the integrity of the region’s supply chain. LAPD officials pledged to pursue all individuals involved, from the theft to the fencing of stolen goods, with aggressive charges.
Following this bust, LAPD reports nearly $4 million in stolen cargo recovered this year, including bitcoin-mining equipment valued at $2.7 million. Officials note that criminals are increasingly employing sophisticated methods to intercept valuable shipments, and authorities remain committed to dismantling these illegal networks.
