Dems’ Shocking Take on Trump’s Economy—What It Could Mean for the 2026 Midterms!

Majority of American Voters Support President Trump’s Economic Policies

A recent comprehensive poll reveals that many American voters favor the economic strategies promoted by President Trump. Notably, nearly 25% of Democratic voters indicate they might support Republican House candidates in the 2026 midterms due to his trade-focused policies.

Approximately 22% of Democratic respondents said Trump’s tax and tariff initiatives increase their likelihood of voting Republican. Breakdowns show diverse support across demographics: 18% of White Democrats, 24% of Hispanic Democrats, 27% of Black Democrats, and 30% of Asian Democrats see his economic handling as beneficial.

The survey highlights Trump’s strong support on immigration, with 49% approving of his policies and only 33% disapproving. Interestingly, even a quarter of voters who supported Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024 back Trump’s stance on immigration.

Voters also favor several key elements of Trump’s legislative agenda, including extending the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (45% support) and increasing border security funding (53%). Meanwhile, 42% support implementing work requirements for Medicaid recipients, indicating bipartisan backing for some reforms.

The poll, conducted from May 23 to June 13 with over 8,000 participants, shows that while Trump’s approval rating on the economy stands at 35%, many see the turbulence associated with his policies as potentially beneficial in the long term.

Analysts suggest that this support could translate into narrow Democratic victories in the House, possibly flipping just seven seats, which would give Democrats a 222-212 majority. Historically, the party controlling the White House tends to lose seats during midterm elections.
