ICE Director Threatens Boston with Flood of Immigration Agents Over Sanctuary Laws
ICE to Increase Presence in Boston Amid Sanctuary Law Resistance
The Acting Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Todd Lyons, announced plans to significantly boost ICE agents in Boston, citing ongoing resistance to federal immigration enforcement. Lyons expressed frustration with the city’s leadership for maintaining sanctuary policies, which he claims contribute to increased crime and unsafe neighborhoods.
Lyons stated, “We’re going to deploy more agents to sanctuary jurisdictions. Boston’s decision to uphold sanctuary laws does not equate to safer streets; it allows more criminal aliens to operate freely. Residents can expect a stronger ICE presence soon.”
The announcement follows Mayor Michelle Wu’s refusal to comply with an ultimatum from the Attorney General to eliminate Boston’s sanctuary laws. Wu defended her stance at a rally, stating, “Our city will not back down from our commitment to protect immigrant communities. We will not sacrifice the safety and integrity of Boston for political pressure.”
Lyons criticized the mayor’s stance, arguing that sanctuary policies hinder law enforcement efforts. “When local police ignore ICE detainers, convicted criminals can be released back into the community, raising danger levels,” he said.
Community protests have also emerged in opposition to ICE conduct. During a rally, members held signs reading “Hands Off ICE!” and “Dignity Not Deportations,” expressing concern over immigration enforcement actions.
Lyons contends, “Many local officers are pro-ICE and eager to collaborate behind the scenes. It’s crucial for city leaders to understand that releasing criminal aliens exacerbates community violence. We can swiftly remove those responsible for ongoing crimes and enhance public safety.”
