Rio Ferdinand Moves to Dubai: Man U Legend’s Bold New Life Outside the UK
Rio Ferdinand Explains His Move to Dubai
Retired footballer Rio Ferdinand has shared his reasons for relocating to Dubai shortly after ending his role as a pundit on TNT Sports. The former Manchester United and England defender, 46, announced in May that he would be stepping away from broadcasting to focus on his business ventures and his family’s future.
Ferdinand revealed that his decision was influenced by multiple factors. Having visited Dubai previously, he enjoyed the lifestyle, safety, and weather, and was impressed by the energetic environment for children. His wife, Kate, also introduced him to a different side of the city through visits to friends, which played a role in his choice.
“I wanted a new chapter,” Ferdinand explained. “I’ve been working with TNT for the past decade, but I no longer want my life to be dictated by football fixtures. Moving to Dubai offers a better environment for my kids’ education and overall well-being.”
The move also aligns with his children’s educational needs. Ferdinand has a four-year-old, Cree, and a two-year-old, Shae, with Kate. His stepchildren, Lorenz, Tate, and Tia, also live with the family. He visited schools in Dubai and appreciated their English curriculum, noting that teachers are valued highly there—a contrast to his view of the undervalued teaching staff in the UK.
Expressing gratitude for his time at TNT Sports, Ferdinand emphasized that his departure doesn’t mean distancing himself from football. He highlighted his excitement about the future, including family time, his passion project “Rio Ferdinand Presents,” and other business interests.
“This transition is about embracing new opportunities and enjoying life with my family,” he said. “I look forward to staying involved in football in different ways and supporting the growth of my ventures.”
