Man Charged with Murder of Pregnant Girlfriend and Her Burial
A man from Massachusetts has been formally charged with the murder of his pregnant girlfriend, whose body was discovered buried behind his grandparents’ property. The victim, 18-year-old Kylee Monteiro, was 11 weeks pregnant at the time of her death.
Gregory Groom, 22, appeared in court following his arrest, just days after the authorities found Monteiro’s remains. She was last seen on August 7, when she sent her sister a distressing message claiming Groom had assaulted her, stating, “He threw me on the ground, pulled my hair, and strangled me. My phone is at 4 percent; if I die, it’s Greg.”
The next day, Groom contacted police to report Monteiro missing, claiming she had come to his house to stay but left after an argument. However, authorities eventually suspected him and revealed plans to search his grandparents’ property. Confronted with this, Groom confessed to stabbing Monteiro with a kitchen knife, then dragging her body into the woods and burying her about five feet underground.
Monteiro’s body was ultimately located approximately 20 yards from where the alleged assault occurred. Despite confessing, Groom maintained he was not guilty of the murder, and it remains unclear whether the child she carried was his.
Family friends described Monteiro as a loving and caring person, deeply missed by those who knew her. Her sister, Faith, expressed heartbreak over her loss, saying, “I lost my sister and will never get to say goodbye or tell her I love her.”
Authorities continue their investigation, and legal proceedings are underway. Support services are available for those affected by domestic violence issues.
