England Star Hannah Hampton BURNS Lionesses’ TRUE Feelings on Shock Retirement of Mary Earps!

Hannah Hampton Shares Thoughts on Mary Earps’ Retirement and Her Role as England’s New No. 1

England’s new first-choice goalkeeper, Hannah Hampton, has expressed understanding regarding Mary Earps’ decision to retire just before the upcoming European Championships. Despite the difficulty many are experiencing in accepting the news, Hampton emphasizes the importance of respecting Earps’ choice.

The 24-year-old Chelsea goalkeeper had been competing with Earps for the starting position in the squad preparing for the tournament in Switzerland. As Hampton appeared to be winning that battle, Earps, 32, unexpectedly announced her retirement, cutting short her international career ahead of the Lions’ defense of their Euros title.

Hampton highlighted Earps’ significant contributions to women’s goalkeeping, noting that she helped elevate the position within the sport. “We must respect her decision,” Hampton said. “Mary’s achievements have put women’s goalkeeping on the map for younger players. She’s been instrumental in shaping the game.”

Regarding her own efforts to connect, Hampton shared, “I’ve congratulated her and expressed my gratitude for her impact. There’s nothing more I can do now except honor her legacy and move forward.”

Hampton added that she believes Earps has been an “unbelievable player” and that her presence will be missed both on and off the pitch. “Her personality united the team, especially at critical moments,” she said. “It’s been tough for everyone to accept her decision, but we must respect it. Now, I aim to uphold her legacy and give my best for the team.”

Having served as Earps’ deputy in previous tournaments, Hampton reassures fans that she isn’t feeling the pressure of her new role. “There’s not much self-imposed pressure,” she explained. “We’re a strong team, supporting each other regardless of who starts. My focus is to enjoy the experience, contribute to the team’s success, and create more memorable moments.”

This summer’s squad includes club teammates Khiara Keating from Manchester City and Anna Moorhouse from Orlando Pride, the latter having recently won the NWSL championship. Hampton emphasized their readiness and experience, regardless of whether their international careers are extensive, highlighting their commitment to performing at their best for England.
