Ex-Man United Star Signed by Sir Alex Ferguson Joins New Club Hours After Contract Terminated

Forgotten Manchester United Star Signs New Club Hours After Contract Termination

Nick Powell, a former Manchester United youth prospect, has recently secured a new team shortly after his contract with Stockport County was terminated by mutual agreement.

Once hailed by Sir Alex Ferguson as an “exceptional talent,” Powell joined Manchester United in 2012 for £6 million after impressing with Crewe Alexandra, notably scoring a remarkable goal in the League Two play-off final. At 18, expectations were high for his future at Old Trafford.

However, his time at United was limited, with just nine appearances and one goal before being released in 2016. Despite the early promise, Powell’s career took him to Wigan Athletic, where he flourished, netting 41 goals in 140 games over three seasons. He later played for Stoke City, making over 100 appearances before joining Stockport County in 2023.

During his tenure at Stockport, he was a key player initially but saw less game time last season. Recently, the club announced that Powell departed by mutual agreement.

Remarkably, within hours of leaving Stockport, Powell signed for Bradford City, a League One rival. The club’s manager, Graham Alexander, expressed enthusiasm about the signing, emphasizing Powell’s ability and potential to rediscover his form. “Nick’s ability is undeniable, and he is determined to regain his top performance,” Alexander said. “He’s a valuable addition to our squad as we aim for a strong season.”

Powell is Bradford’s tenth summer signing, as they look to build a successful campaign in League One, where they have started strongly with two wins and a draw in their first three matches.
