Former Man United Star in Talks After Ligue 1 Contract Termination

Former Manchester United Player in Talks with New Club After Lyon Termination

Nemanja Matic, the former midfielder for Manchester United, is reportedly negotiating with an Italian team following the recent ending of his contract with Lyon.

The 37-year-old’s contract with Lyon was mutually terminated last week, just 18 months after he joined the French club. Lyon announced the separation in an official statement, expressing gratitude for his contributions and wishing him future success.

Since leaving Lyon, Matic has been a free agent. Reports suggest he is in discussions with Sassuolo, a newly promoted Serie A side. Sources indicate that his agent has held positive talks with the club’s head coach, Fabio Grosso, and CEO Giovanni Carnevali.

If the transfer concludes, Matic will return to Italy’s top league for the second time in recent years, having previously played for Roma under manager Jose Mourinho, where he made 50 appearances.

He joined Lyon in January last year from Rennes and played 55 matches for the club before their recent departure.

Lyon’s decision to part ways with Matic comes amid financial troubles that led to their relegation to Ligue 2 last June, with debts reported to be over £422 million.

Matic’s career has seen several highlights, including winning multiple titles with Chelsea and notable performances for Manchester United during his five seasons at the club.
