Georgia Daycare Worker Yvette Thurston Arrested for Child Abuse
Child Abuse at Georgia Day Care Results in Arrest
A woman working at a Georgia daycare has been detained following allegations of child abuse. Authorities reported that the father of a one-year-old boy displayed distressing images of his son’s injuries, including a black eye and facial swelling, caused during his first day at the facility.
Yvette Thurston, 54, faces multiple charges, including three counts of first-degree child abuse and one count of aggravated battery. She was taken into custody after an incident at Little Blessings Child Care in Bainbridge, near the Florida border.
Cory Weeks, a Marine, recounted his ordeal on social media, sharing graphic photos of his son’s injuries. He explained that Clay, the boy, suffered severe facial trauma and cuts. Weeks mentioned that initial reports suggested another child had caused the injuries with a plastic toy, but surveillance footage later confirmed that Thurston was responsible for the attack.
He expressed heartbreak, saying, “This is every parent’s nightmare.” Weeks also noted that the injuries led to Clay being rushed to hospital for treatment and assured that more actions would be taken to seek justice and transparency.
Investigators viewed security footage, which played a crucial role in the case. Authorities confirmed that Thurston had been dismissed from her position following the incident. A spokesperson from the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning stated, “The employee has been terminated.” They also pledged to work alongside law enforcement to conduct a thorough review, as investigations are ongoing.
There has been no comment from the daycare facility itself concerning the allegations. The case highlights concerns about safety and misconduct in early childhood care settings.
