Borussia Dortmund’s Sporting Director Confirms Dialogue with Jamie Gittens Amid Chelsea Interest

Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, has indicated that discussions regarding the future of young winger Jamie Gittens have taken place. Despite a recent failed transfer attempt by Chelsea prior to the Club World Cup, the Premier League club remains interested in acquiring Gittens. Chelsea had previously submitted a bid of £29.5 million, which was rejected by Dortmund, and later offered £42 million, but that bid was also turned down.

Kehl expressed confidence that Gittens will remain professional during the ongoing transfer saga. He mentioned, “We’ve had a few conversations with Jamie recently. He is focused on performing and understands his responsibilities. He remains a key player for us in this tournament, and we’ll see what unfolds after that.”

Gittens was substituted into Dortmund’s 0-0 draw with Fluminense in the second half of the Club World Cup. The player himself is keen on the move to Chelsea, who are eager to bolster their squad by adding a new winger this summer, especially after opting not to make Jadon Sancho’s transfer permanent from Manchester United. Chelsea previously loaned Sancho, ending their obligation to buy him outright for £78 million, and have already strengthened their attack with the signing of Liam Delap from Ipswich for £30 million.

It remains uncertain whether Chelsea will meet Dortmund’s asking price of £55 million for Gittens, and negotiations are ongoing. The transfer window is still open, and both clubs await further developments.
