Trilateral Meeting: Trump, Putin, and Zelensky on the Horizon
Trump Signals Willingness to Attend Peace Talks for Ukraine
Former President Donald Trump indicated that a meeting involving himself, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is likely to happen. He suggested he would participate if it could help end the ongoing conflict, which he claims would have prevented had he been in office.
“A meeting is being arranged between Zelensky, Putin, and myself,” Trump told a Fox News host, hinting he might take part in future negotiations. “Though I don’t necessarily want to be there, I want to ensure it happens — and I believe there’s a good chance of success,” he added, referencing a recent high-stakes meeting with Putin.
Trump emphasized his desire for a ceasefire and expressed optimism: “We are close to reaching an agreement. I believe Putin would like to resolve this. The conflict, in my view, should never have started.”
He also disclosed that during private discussions, Putin explained why the conflict wouldn’t have begun if he had been re-elected, implying that his second term could have prevented the war.
When asked by the host what advice he would give Zelensky, Trump responded simply: “Make a deal.” He remarked that Ukraine faces a formidable military opposition and expressed a belief that progress is possible.
He remarked that his meeting with Putin was positive, with the two leaders getting along well, and that they agreed on several points. Although a few key issues remain unresolved, Trump believes a compromise can be reached, primarily dependent on Zelensky’s willingness to negotiate.
“It’s really up to Zelensky to get it done,” he concluded.
