Putin Cheers Trump at Alaska Meeting, Says Ukraine Invasion Wouldn’t Happen Under Biden
Putin Seeks to Charm Trump Amid Ukraine Conflict Discussion
Russian President Vladimir Putin, known for his strategic communications background from his KGB days, attempted to flatter and influence former President Donald Trump during their recent lengthy meeting. Putin claimed that the invasion of Ukraine would not have occurred had Biden not been in office.
Following their encounter, Putin reflected on past diplomatic efforts, asserting, “In 2022, during my last contact with the previous U.S. administration, I warned my American colleague against escalating hostilities.” He added, “President Trump’s recent statements—that he would have prevented the war—are accurate, and I can confirm that.”
Putin, a master manipulator, often uses flattery to influence world leaders. He described his relationship with Trump as “business-like and constructive.”
Though Trump has previously expressed belief that Putin wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine if he were president in 2022, he avoided directly engaging with Putin’s remarks in this context. Instead, he highlighted U.S. leverage by pointing out that American business interests remain hesitant to deal with Russia until the war ends.
He emphasized, “We’ve become one of the most attractive countries for business worldwide, and we are eager to resolve the conflict.”
In a more candid tone during an interview, Trump expressed approval of Putin’s comments about Biden, calling the Ukrainian conflict “stupid” and asserting that Biden’s leadership was at fault, describing him as a “terrible president.” Trump claimed Putin provided him with behind-the-scenes explanations for the invasion’s timing, which he attributes to “gross incompetence.”
