Reba McEntire Honors the Life of Her Former Stepson, Brandon Blackstock

Reba McEntire has shared her grief following the passing of her former stepson, Brandon Blackstock. In a heartfelt message on Instagram, she announced that he had died last week, describing his death as the end of his personal struggles and expressing her hope that he is now at peace in God’s presence.

She wrote, “Last week, my stepson and oldest son, Brandon Blackstock, went home to be with God. His battle is over, and he rests peacefully with Him. There is no one else like him, and I am grateful for the time we shared. His legacy and laughter will continue through his family. Rest in peace, cowboy. Until we meet again, happy trails.”

McEntire also paid tribute to her son Shelby on Instagram, calling Brandon an “irreplaceable part of our family” and reflecting on the memories they shared. Shelby responded with a touching message, expressing how he will always feel Brandon’s presence in everyday moments and how much they will miss him.

Shelby shared a heartfelt post, recalling Brandon as “an irreplaceable part of our family,” and pledged to cherish their memories. Brandon’s death followed a three-year battle with melanoma, from which he succumbed at age 48, as confirmed by a family representative.

McEntire, who was married to Brandon’s father—from 1989 to 2015—remained close to Brandon and continued to refer to him as her son. She expressed support for both Brandon and Kelly Clarkson during his divorce from Clarkson, emphasizing her love for them both.

Kelly Clarkson and Brandon’s marriage lasted from 2013 until their divorce in 2022. She recently canceled her Las Vegas residency, citing her ex-husband’s illness as the reason, just hours before the news of Brandon’s passing broke.

Brandon also had two children with his ex-wife, Melissa Ashworth: Savannah, 23, and Seth, 18. McEntire, who co-parents with Narvel Blackstock, Brandon’s father, remains deeply connected and compassionate amidst her grief.
