Masked T:e:e:n Attacks Woman with Knife on NYC Train Over Bag

Teenager Arrested After Violent Subway Attack

An 18-year-old has been apprehended in connection with a brutal stabbing of a woman on a northbound subway train in Lower Manhattan. The incident occurred around 11:10 p.m. last week when the suspect, masked and wielding a large kitchen knife, demanded the victim’s bag. When she refused, he attacked her repeatedly, slashing her multiple times.

Surveillance footage captured the attacker—a man wearing a yellow face mask—facing the victim during the assault. The woman, who is non-verbal and communicates only through writing, described feeling uneasy as the masked individual stared at her before following her off the train. He then threatened her, stating he would stab her if she didn’t give up her belongings.

According to court documents, Balfour pulled out a knife and slashed the woman’s left arm, elbow, both hands, and back, resulting in a significant amount of bleeding. The attack pierced her diaphragm and displaced her internal organs, necessitating emergency surgery at Bellevue Hospital to save her life. She was also found to have lost a large amount of blood, prompting extensive medical treatment.

During the attack, Balfour took the woman’s cellphone and discarded the knife as he fled the scene, leaving her injured and calling for help. Authorities later located him at a shelter in Jamaica, Queens, where they found the blood-covered cellphone and mask used during the assault.

The suspect was arraigned on charges of attempted murder, assault, and robbery. He was ordered held without bail and is scheduled to return to court. The investigation continues as authorities seek additional details about the case.
