Jennifer Aniston’s Heartbreaking Confession on Matthew Perry’s Passing
Jennifer Aniston Opens Up About Her Late Co-Star Matthew Perry
Jennifer Aniston recently shared heartfelt reflections on the life and struggles of her former “Friends” co-star, Matthew Perry. In an interview with Vanities Fair, she revealed that she and the rest of the cast—including Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc—did everything possible to support Perry during his battles with addiction.
“It felt like we’d been mourning Matthew for a long time because his fight with that disease was incredibly tough,” Aniston expressed. The actress, 56, acknowledged the pain of losing her friend and admitted that her feelings are complex. While mourning, she also noted, “As hard as it was for us and the fans, I think this is better,” referring to his passing, which she believes has brought him relief from his pain.
Perry, who died at 54 in October 2023 from a ketamine overdose, was open about his long history with addiction. He estimated having spent around $9 million trying to achieve sobriety and described his addiction in his memoir as “The Big Terrible Thing.”
Following his death, Aniston paid tribute on social media, expressing her love and hope that he is now at peace, free from suffering. She mentioned, “Matty, I love you so much and I know you are now completely at peace and out of any pain. I talk to you every day… sometimes I can almost hear you saying ‘could you BE any crazier?’”
In her first interview after Perry’s passing, she shared that he appeared “happy” and “healthy” shortly before his death, even texting her that very morning. She recalled, “He was not in pain. He wasn’t struggling. He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard,” highlighting his resilient spirit despite ongoing battles.
His tragic death continues to be a stark reminder of the devastating toll of addiction. Recently, five individuals faced charges related to his death, including doctors who admitted to distributing ketamine.
Through her grief, Aniston expressed relief that Perry, who struggled with addiction for years, is now free from his suffering, emphasizing her ongoing love and hope for his peace.
