Christie Brinkley’s Surprising Take on Marriage
Christie Brinkley Shares Thoughts on Modern Marriage and Renewal Options
The iconic supermodel recently expressed her views on marriage during a podcast appearance, revealing her skepticism about traditional lifelong commitments. Having gone through four marriages, Brinkley suggested a flexible approach, such as periodically renewing vows every few years, to remove the legal complications involved in divorce.
“You could get married, like, ‘We’ll see if you want to renew it in five years,’” she proposed. “Every five years, ask, ‘Do you want to renew?’ That way, if you’re bored or unhappy, you can choose to end it without all the legal hassle.”
Brinkley, 71, acknowledged that her parents maintained a traditional marriage but observed that nowadays, “honorable men are becoming a rarity” due to the abundance of temptations and lack of integrity among some men.
Her marital history includes unions with French artist Francois Allaux, singer Billy Joel, real estate developer Richard Taubman, and architect Peter Cook. Her relationship with Joel, her most notable marriage, lasted from 1985 to 1994.
She also reflected on her current approach to relationships, sharing that she doesn’t use dating apps, but her daughter Sailor once used her account, leading to an amusing discovery.
“She put me on a dating app without telling me,” Brinkley recounted, “and we matched with the same guys despite our 44-year age gap.” She added that her children include Alexa, Jack, and Sailor, from her various marriages.
Reflecting on her past, Brinkley highlighted that her relationships often left her feeling unloved, but she remains optimistic about finding love in the right arms, emphasizing that love requires effort and sometimes expert guidance to sustain.
