Darwin Nunez Sends Emotional Message to Liverpool Fans After £53m Move to Al-Hilal
Darwin Nunez Shares Heartfelt Message to Liverpool Fans After £53m Transfer to Al-Hilal and Scores on Debut
Darwin Nunez bid farewell to Liverpool supporters with an emotional words after making his debut for his new club, Al-Hilal. The Uruguayan striker’s departure follows the club’s acceptance of a £53million bid from the Saudi Pro League side.
Having confirmed his exit through an official statement, Nunez quickly integrated into his new team, coming off the bench to net a goal in a 6-0 friendly victory over FC Aarau. On social media, he expressed his gratitude to Liverpool fans, stating:
“Thank you, Liverpool. After three years, it’s time to say goodbye. I carry countless memories with me that will stay forever. I leave with a full heart, grateful for the support that never wavered — through highs and lows.”
Nunez also shared a video montage of his time at Anfield and emphasized how Liverpool had shaped his identity, adding, “I’ll miss you more than words can express. Thank you to my staff and teammates, I wish you all the best.”
He was listed as a substitute for his new team’s friendly against FC Aarau and made an immediate impact with a goal in the 87th minute, calmly slotting the ball past the keeper after running onto a through ball, sealing the match.
At Liverpool, Nunez’s playing time diminished last season, prompting his desire to leave, which was hinted at as early as January. His performance declined, partly due to being lower in the attacking hierarchy, despite interest from Saudi clubs and a rejected bid from Napoli.
The Reds confirmed the transfer, highlighting Nunez’s contributions: 143 appearances, 40 goals, and silverware including Premier League and Carabao Cup medals. Since arriving from Benfica in 2022, he scored 15 goals in his first season and 18 the next, with notable performances such as last-minute equalizers against Newcastle.
The club expressed gratitude for his efforts and wished him success in his new career chapter. Liverpool initially paid £85m to acquire him, but he struggled to meet expectations, making his final impact a memorable goal in his last season, including a pivotal late-season equalizer against Brentford.
