Josh Duhamel’s Calling: From LA to Minnesota for Doomsday Prep
Actor Josh Duhamel Shares His Return to Simpler Living in Minnesota
Known as a “Doomsday prepper,” Josh Duhamel recently opened up about his decision to leave Hollywood and settle in Minnesota’s wilderness. Inspired to reconnect with basic life skills, Duhamel moved his family to a remote cabin he built himself, seeking a lifestyle focused on simplicity and self-sufficiency.
“I love my work in movies and TV, but I felt a calling to do things with my hands again—repair, create, and enjoy the basics we often overlook,” he explained. His home, located an hour and a half outside Fargo, features a “doomsday cabin” that now feels fully livable after initially lacking essential amenities like electricity and running water.
“It’s a return to the fundamental things: family, friends, making memories,” he said. He’s been learning fishing and hunting, emphasizing the importance of being prepared for uncertain times.
He explained that his property, built over 15 years, is a secluded retreat far from urban distractions. The home now has Starlink internet, a custom water filtration system, and a lifestyle that prioritizes family time in nature.
He shared that the closest store is 40 miles away, making daily life centered on mutual care, warmth, and sustenance. His off-the-grid estate emphasizes the importance of simplicity, with an emphasis on outdoor skills and quality time away from technological distractions.
