Liverpool Sell Darwin Nunez for £53m to Al-Hilal to Fund Isak Bid

Darwin Nunez Completes £53 Million Transfer from Liverpool to Al-Hilal

Darwin Nunez has officially transferred from Liverpool to Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli for a fee of £53 million. The move marks the end of his three-season stint with the Reds, during which he scored 40 goals in 143 appearances and won both Premier League and Carabao Cup medals.

Nunez, who arrived from Benfica in 2022, had expressed his desire to leave earlier in the summer. Liverpool had previously rejected offers from Napoli and Saudi clubs, opting to keep him until the end of the season to contribute to their title challenge. Despite a promising start and scoring 15 goals in his debut season, Nunez struggled to maintain consistent form, netting only seven times in his final season and missing several key chances.

The club confirmed his departure through an official statement, noting that the transfer is subject to international clearance. Nunez’s time at Liverpool was highlighted by memorable moments, including a late brace against Brentford that helped secure a crucial win last January.

His transfer is expected to help Liverpool fund their pursuit of striker Alexander Isak, who is valued at around £150 million. The club is reportedly awaiting the signing of a replacement before finalizing a deal for the Newcastle star, as negotiations remain ongoing.

Throughout his tenure, Nunez faced challenges in living up to his hefty transfer fee, which was initially an £85 million investment from Benfica, but he leaves with a mixed record of goal-scoring and missed chances. Despite the struggles, his contributions during an important season for Liverpool have been acknowledged, and he departs with good wishes from the club.
