Liverpool Express Interest in Crystal Palace’s Captain Marc Guehi to Fill Defensive Gaps

Liverpool are exploring the possibility of acquiring Crystal Palace’s captain, Marc Guehi, as they seek to strengthen their defensive line amid uncertainty surrounding some of their current players.

Guehi, who is approaching the final year of his contract, has drawn attention from several top clubs. Last season, Palace valued him at around £65 million, but their negotiating position has weakened, although they still aim to secure a substantial fee. The club is also in negotiations to sign Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande, valued at up to £40 million, a player previously scouted by Liverpool.

The Reds are also considering other options, including Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, though acquiring a city rival’s player presents obstacles. Meanwhile, their gaze remains on potential replacements for some unsettled defenders, notably Ibrahima Konate, whose contract situation is still unresolved as he enters his last year. Liverpool is also managing the future of Joe Gomez, who has leadership qualities and was nearly transferred last summer.

In another development, Liverpool are close to finalizing a club-record £100 million signing for winger Florian Wirtz, who recently arrived in England for medical assessments. Wirtz, a close friend of compatriot Jeremie Frimpong, joins Liverpool after they secured Frimpong for £29.5 million. Additionally, Liverpool is in advanced talks to sign Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez for roughly £40 million.

The club is also eyeing a new striker, with targets like Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike under consideration. As the squad undergoes overhaul, some players, including Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa, and Harvey Elliott, are expected to leave if suitable offers arise.
