Man City Fined £1M After Breaking Premier League Rules 9 Times—Pep Guardiola’s Team Faces Huge Penalty!
Manchester City Fined Nearly £1 Million for Breaching Premier League Rules
Manchester City has been fined approximately £1 million after acknowledging multiple breaches of Premier League regulations. The club, currently participating in the Club World Cup in the US, experienced a challenging domestic season in 2024-25, finishing third in the league and ending a streak of four consecutive titles.
One of the key issues involved City violating Rule L.33, which mandates teams to start or restart matches punctually. The breach occurred in nine matches throughout the 2024/25 season, including their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in December. The club has accepted responsibility and reached an agreement with the league authorities.
The violations resulted in escalating fines, starting at £40,000 for the first infringement and reaching up to £190,000 for the ninth. City publicly apologized for the breaches and reminded staff and players to adhere strictly to the schedule.
A Premier League statement confirmed: “The club accepted it breached Rule L.33 regarding kick-off and re-start obligations, with breaches in nine matches.” The league emphasized the importance of punctuality for organizational standards, fan experience, and broadcast schedules.
This is not the first time City has been penalized for similar issues. Last season, the club was fined over £2 million for multiple late starts at matches. Overall, City violated top-flight rules 22 times during their 2023-24 title-winning campaign.
In addition to rule breaches, City faces 130 charges relating to alleged Financial Fair Play violations between 2009 and 2018. The charges include failing to disclose accurate contractual and financial information and not cooperating with league investigations.
City maintains their innocence and denies any wrongdoing. If found guilty of the more serious charges, potential penalties could include relegation, heavy fines, and points deductions. An official verdict is yet to be announced.
Meanwhile, City continues their international commitments, having defeated Wydad 2-0 in the Club World Cup. Upcoming matches against Al-Ain and Juventus will conclude their group stage, with the final scheduled for July 13.
