Miranda Devine: Biden Used FEMA as a Far-Left Political Tool

Allegations of Partisan Politics within Federal Agencies

Recent disclosures reveal that the Biden administration allegedly transformed federal agencies into tools for Democratic voter mobilization, prioritizing political objectives over disaster response. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), under the Department of Homeland Security and controlled by Alejandro Mayorkas, reportedly focused on voter registration efforts during disaster responses.

During a response to a hurricane in Florida last October, FEMA officials were reportedly directed to avoid homes with Trump signs, allegedly to target particular voter demographics. This shift was part of a broader strategy to leverage crises for political gain, with FEMA’s resources allegedly used to promote voter access among specific communities.

The troubling pattern extended across multiple disasters, including Hurricane Helene and the Maui wildfires, where FEMA’s support was perceived as inadequate. Critics argue that disaster relief has been sidelined in favor of partisan agendas, undermining the agency’s core mission of assisting victims.

Government-Wide Voter Outreach Initiatives

Under President Biden, a federal push for voter registration was initiated through an executive order on March 7, 2021, emphasizing “equity in voter access.” This effort aimed to increase turnout among marginalized groups, with agencies like the Department of Energy, Department of Labor, and Health and Human Services actively participating in voter registration activities, sometimes involving targeting illegal immigrants with access to benefits.

Particularly aggressive was DHS, which drafted a plan to use disasters as opportunities to promote voter access, including integrating voter registration forms into naturalization ceremonies and establishing partnerships with groups like the League of Women Voters and NALEO.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency collaborated with NGOs to hold webinars on cyber-hygiene, further entrenching voter outreach efforts within federal activities. Budget allocations for these initiatives included millions in contracts and dedicated staffing.

In response, former President Trump signed an executive order to dismantle these initiatives, emphasizing the need to return agencies to their primary roles of disaster response and public safety.

While these claims raise concerns about politicization, the focus remains on restoring the integrity and efficiency of federal agencies to serve the American people effectively.
